United Woolen Mills Ghost Sign. Columbus, Ohio

Woolen Mills Ghost Sign Columbus Ohio Peevers

Just up the road from the Fireproof Building in Columbus, Ohio, is this rather wonderful ghost sign!

It’s hard to make out very much of it. From what I can read:

ESTD 1886 …

One reason it’s so hard to make out is that it appears to have been painted on top of another ghost sign. For example, look at the green, lowercase “e” at the end of the second row. It’s a different typeface and color from the rest. To the left of it there is a green “v” with a white “o” painted on top of it.

I haven’t been able to find out anything at all about the history of the United Woolen Mills Company. If you know anything at all, I’d love to hear from you!

  1. Hi, I recently found a yard long photo of the Mills company picnic. You can see it on ebay. Your ghost photo was the only information I could find. Have you had any additional information?
