The Infamous Playboy Sculpture. Marfa, Texas.

When I recently visited Marfa, Texas, there was a bit brouhaha about the Richard Phillips sculpture, funded by Playboy, which had been put up just outside of town.

Was it a sign advertising Playboy? If that were the case, it would have needed permission from the Texas Department of Transportation. The legal wrangling dragged on and on. In fact, just after I took this photo, the local TV news film crew arrived and asked if I wanted to be interviewed about it.

After many months, it was eventually taken down. In March 2014, it found itself at the Dallas Contemporary alongside Richard Phillips’ solo show.

The show closed in August.
