You may remember recently I finally found a Muffler Man in Elmsford, New York. It was in a sorry state: no arms and peeling paint. Imagine, then, how excited I was to find this one in Cheshire, Connecticut recently: it’s in absolutely perfect condition!
Clearly the House of Doors (in front of which this fellow stands) has invested a great deal of time and money into restoring him. Yes, the flag’s a little weathered, but other than that he’s in perfect condition. A great example of the classic Paul Bunyan-design. (For more on this history of Muffler Men, see here.)
He’s stood here for thirty years and is apparently designated as a flag, to get around the town’s height ordinances!
Address: House of Doors, 540 West Johnson Ave, Cheshire, CT 06410
