As you walk by the Red Square Apartment Complex on Houston in New York’s East Village, remember to look up. Right up there, peeking out of the very top you’ll see the head and outstretched arm of Vladimir Lenin, Communist revolutionary and first leader of the Soviet Union.
The statue is one of the classic design that festooned the USSR throughout the Soviet era. This refugee found its way to New York City thanks to Michael Rosen, the community activist and developer who owns Red Square (itself named after Moscow’s main square).
An interesting building. Even the clock is intriguing, based as it is, on the M&Co Askew watch design.
